Term 3 - New Term, New Books!

0comments
Welcome to Term 3!  It's amazing how fast the year is going... and this term, we have some great new books to enjoy.  Every year we buy the Guinness Book of World Records, but this year, it came with a video trailer, too!  Click on the picture below to see it...

We've also got some great new series to come this term. 'Rebecca and the Queen of Nations' is the first of a series telling stories from the point of view of children during important times in New Zealand's early history.  They are a little like the 'My Story' series, and are written by a variety of fantastic authors.

On the New Book stand this week, we also have one of my favourite picture books to be published in New Zealand lately: Queen Alice's Palaces, by Juliette MacIver.  It is clever, and funny, with great illustrations.

Spot the Dog

Many of you will have memories of the wonderful Spot books, written by Eric Hill.  Some of you might even remember the TV programme about Spot and his adventures!
It was sad to find out this week that Eric Hill has died.  We are lucky to still have his books, and also to be able to see him on video.  Here is Eric reading 'Where's Spot?' : the very first Spot book.

If you would like more information on Eric and how he came to write his Spot books, here is a link to an article and a video interview on the Guardian newspaper website.

Thank you, Mr Hill, for Spot!

It's nearly Matariki

As we get closer to Matariki, it seems like a good opportunity to share a video of an author reading her own book.  This is one that we have in our library, and it is called 'The Seven Stars of Matariki', written (and told) by Toni Rolleston-Cummings.  It is a great book!

Winter Storytelling

0comments
It's looking like we could have a miserably cold and wintry week ahead. It's so nice to have the Library Heat Pump up and running.  It is quick and efficient at making our new space toasty and warm!

In this weather, it's nice to sit down and listen to a story.  Here is the Library Lion, from one of my favourite storytelling sites, Storyline Online.  It's a great site to have a look around on a rainy or cold day...

...and here is the link to the site, so you can explore more stories....

NZ Post Children's Book Awards 2014

0comments
It's the time of year again where we get the chance to see all the amazing books nominated for the Children's Book Awards!  You may have noticed the books displayed on the shoe cubby shelf just inside the library door... and some of you may even have had a story or two read to you by your teacher.  This week, if you have time in your library session, have a look at them with your teacher - and you might even choose to vote as a class on which ones you like best.  There is also a link below so you can vote online individually, if you prefer.  I know which ones my favourite books are... I wonder how many of you will agree with me... !

Welcome back to Term 2

It's so exciting to have normal classes in our brand new space!  It's going to be great to have all the books within easy reach again, and to have the library buzzing with students and teachers and not just power tools!

On our New Book stand this week is Eric Vale: Epic Fail.  If you liked Wimpy Kid books, or Timmy Failure, Big Nate or Origami Yoda books, you will love Eric Vale!  Have you ever had a day you just wanted to forget?  Eric definitely has.....

Here is the trailer on YouTube  to have a look at - come and reserve the book from the library this week!
